The Bon Secours Care-a-Van is a miraculous resource for those in the Hampton Roads, VA region who are without health insurance.
This free, mobile medical service provides general medical care to uninsured children and adults. Its team is equipped with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, physicians, patient technicians and outreach workers.
Johnnie Bazemore, a patient of the Bon Secours Care-A-Van, found himself temporarily uninsured after losing his health insurance coverage. In his particular case, Care-A-Van may have even saved Johnnie’s life.
While uninsured, Johnnie found out he needed colon surgery. The attentive Bon Secours Care-A -Van staff made sure he understood his needs and helped him find appropriate resources for his surgery. It was a surgery he wouldn’t have otherwise been able to afford.
After undergoing colon surgery, Johnnie was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Catching this cancer probably wouldn’t have been possible if he hadn’t had these medical resources available without insurance.
“With financial stress, you can’t heal properly. The help I got was a blessing that made life easier,” says Johnnie. “They treated me so well. I am ever so thankful.”
Now cancer free, Johnnie often refers others in the community to the Care-A-Van and the staff that helped save his life when he was at his most vulnerable.
The Care-A-Van provides care to patients across the Hampton Roads, VA region including Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Suffolk.
