Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital (RGH) is pleased to announce that Tammy Jenkins has been named their hospital’s first honoree of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation‘s mission to recognize the extraordinary care nurses provide patients and families every day.
Tammy is a registered nurse in the RGH medical/surgical inpatient unit. She has been with the hospital for the entirety of her 31-year career.
Her nomination notes for this award have praised her patience and kindness when it comes to sitting with patients and their families. They share that she makes time and effort to get to know them, which in turn helps them feel more comfortable during their stay.
“Tammy is so kind, loving and always has a positive attitude at work. She brings joy to any job she’s assigned, and she can always cheer up colleagues or patients with a kind word or a funny story,” one of her nominators shares.
Another nominator says, “Tammy has been known to give patients much needed haircuts upon request. She makes special off-campus trips to pick up food or items a patient craves. In general, she goes out of her way to help her patients and her colleagues.”
And lastly, one nominator wrote, “If there were 50 more Tammys here, what a great thing that would be.”
Tammy lives in Warsaw, Va. with husband, Curtis, and their many animals. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors and watching old black and white movies.
“I try to treat people with kindness, the way I would like my family or myself to be treated,” she shares. “I’ve met some great people at RGH over the years and some of my closest friends are my coworkers.”

Our patients deserve kind, compassionate nursing care and these nurses deserve appreciation and recognition for their extraordinary efforts. Thank you, Tammy, for setting the example for the exemplary care we aim to provide here at RGH.”
Other nominees for the DAISY Award honor included Joyce Whay, Johnnie McAfee, Melissa Sinatra and Susan Williams.
The DAISY award at RGH will be chosen quarterly. Any RN or LPN is eligible for nomination and they may be submitted by patients, patients’ families, visitors as well as fellow RGH team members.
