We’d like for you to meet Misti Wilson, MD, a breast surgical oncologist with Bon Secours Virginia Breast Center!
“I use advanced breast imaging, genetic testing and genomic testing of the breast tumor to compliment my surgical treatment options, educate and create an individualized plan of care to meet the needs of my patients,” Dr. Wilson shares. “My years of experience and fellowship training allow me to provide excellent surgical and cosmetic outcomes.”
Dr. Wilson’s father sadly passed away from lung cancer when she was 8 years old. So, while in medical school, she had a passion to care for cancer patients.
“From there, I fell in love with breast cancer surgery as a surgical resident,” she adds.
While Dr. Wilson surgically removes breast cancer, she also cares for other diseases of the breast. When it comes to her job, she most enjoys her patients as well as the operating process.
“I’m a very positive person and I try to give hope to every patient I meet,” she shares. “Watching them go through their journey with breast cancer is very inspiring and rewarding.”
As a Christian, Dr. Wilson encourages the spiritual aspect of cancer care, which fits in perfectly with the faith-based aspect of our ministry.
“I will pray with my patients if they want and I try to always give hope from a faith-based perspective,” she says.
Since there are many treatments done during cancer care, they must be a team approach. And Dr. Wilson is grateful to work closely with her team.
“We communicate well about the patients and always have conferences to discuss their care,” she explains.
When she’s not working, Dr. Wilson shares that she loves spending time with her family and cheering for the Crimson Tide.
And when asked what she would say to those who are undergoing breast cancer treatment, Dr. Wilson shared the following:
“No matter where you are in the process, this is a very transformative journey. Some days can seem like an emotional roller coaster, but be brave and strong! You can do this, and we are all here for you!”
