These efforts are now being recognized at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center by the American College of Cardiology. Recently, this facility was awarded Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI based on a rigorous onsite evaluation of our team’s ability to assess, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

Additionally, primary PCI stands for primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Also known as coronary angioplasty, it is a non-surgical procedure that opens narrowed or blocked coronary arteries with a balloon. This relieves symptoms of heart disease or reduces heart damage during or after a heart attack.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 730,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. The most common symptom of a heart attack is chest pain or discomfort in both men and women.
