We continue to learn more and more about COVID-19 as time goes on. Our knowledge of this new virus has grown so much since it was first discovered at the end of last year.

Coughing, shortness of breath and fever were the main COVID-19 symptoms originally listed on website for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, this list was recently updated to include six new symptoms as well as some additional information.

New updates to the COVID-19 symptoms list

People with one or a combination of the following symptoms may be infected with COVID-19, according to the CDC:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Cough

Or have at least two of the following symptoms:

  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Muscle pain
  • New loss of smell or taste
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Headache
  • Sore throat

These symptoms can range from mild to severe in individuals. They usually appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus has occurred. Children seem to have mild illness, and their symptoms are similar to those found in adults.
