Check out these flu tips! It’s the season to be surrounded by those you love – not surrounded by tissue boxes because of your stuffy nose. The flu, which comes on suddenly, can cause mild to severe illness throughout the fall, winter, and into the spring season.
You might have the flu if you’re experiencing one or all of the following:
- Fever or feeling feverish/chills
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Muscle or body aches
- Headaches
- Fatigue or tiredness
- Vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children than adults)
If you are experiencing flu symptoms, in most cases, you should:
- Avoid contact with other people except to get medical care
- Get plenty of rest
- Drink liquids – water, warm broths, or liquids with electrolytes are all great options to get and stay hydrated
- Stay home for 24 hours after your fever is gone (it’s important to note that not everyone who has the flu will get a fever)
If you are at high risk of flu complications, are very sick or concerned about your illness, contact your health care provider immediately.
